This art book, created for the Greenhouse project that officially represents Portugal at the 60th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia 2024, reflects the Creole Garden as a place that emerges as a site of botanical richness and a locus of cultural identity and knowledge transmission, recognizing the garden as a space of potential, diversity, and multiple possibilities, symbolizing resistance, freedom, and survival.
This book is a pilgrimage through landscapes rich with the ancient wisdom of the earth, that explores the deep, spiritual connections and complex interplay between humans and nature. It presents a comprehensive exploration of the multifaceted roles of plants within Creole gardens, as well as their uses in and the use of plants in medicinal applications, ceremonial practices and healing perspectives, providing an in-depth analysis of their significance in Creole cultures and beyond. It contains illustrations of the plants present in the garden, as well as their medicinal and ceremonial uses.
