I'm currently working on a video installation with the work title 'Picnic in my garden'. It consists of a documentary about PFAS soil pollution in Antwerp, Belgium screened on a self grown cinema screen from mycelium, a new bio material consisting of the roots system of fungi.
This installation is focusssed on practices of care in gardening and the irony of the ecological framework we are thought so often, 'grow your own veggies, buy from biological farmers, eat seasonal' all while the government is complicit in supporting the chemical industry and allowing this industry to pollute our soils without any consequences.
The documentary is a collaboraiton with the soil, my grandparents and the PFAS particles in our air and ground.
The installation is a collaboraiton between all participants of the filming proces and the mycelium which is currently growing in my cellar.
We are all growing together into a form that invites eveyrone to join this ongoing conversation about how to resist and how to deal with the pollution of our ecosystem, of which we, as humans are just a small part.
